The Best of Global Lens: China



A Surprisingly Strong Compilation Of Chinese Drama
I love the idea of DVD compilations, but I almost never purchase them. Most contain mainstream film and (1) if there are films I like, they are generally coupled with awful choices or (2) they have films I've already bought, but in better format presentations. But I think the idea of bringing international fare together, such as in this collection, at a reasonable price is a great way for viewers to sample various movies. This quintessentially Chinese collection is absolutely designed for people who are familiar with the introspective, contemplative, and leisurely paced character studies favored in Chinese drama. Each has merits to recommend it--but there are a couple of truly memorable films in this set. That said, you can make up your own mind whether this collection is for you. Here are the films:

Dam Street (3 1/2 stars): There is a really compelling story at the heart of "Dam Street." In some hands, the film could have been turned into a melodramatic weepie about...

Wonderful collection and series
I have viewed all the films from this particular series from China...They were all very well written, directed and performed. I enjoy foreign films or independent films a lot more than the "main stream" films from Hollywood...Iwill purchase more from this "The best of the Global Lens" series..Coodos..
