Fragmentation and Unity
Described as "holding a mirrorball up to nature," Finkelstein gives us another fascinating meditation on the modern world and the role of the artist in Epistolary Fusillades. Through improvised dialog -- which alternates between the hypnotic and intense -- constantly evolving layered graphics and an evocative score, the piece poetically describes the ultra-fragmented world we live in. We are so bombarded with shards of information and images that we can only guess at the meanings of things--without a hope of seeing the whole picture.
But as the piece evolves, Finkelstein weaves together his image collage, 3D shapes and sounds into coherence--extolling the artist as "re-integrator" that can pull sense out of the chaos. All the while, bits of dialog shine out like laser beams of insight. Both Finkelstein and Hill take turns expounding on our shattered understanding in ways that are both funny and poignant.
