Charlie Rose - An appreciation of Richard Holbrooke (December 14, 2010)

Charlie Rose's Excellent tribute to Richard Holbrooke
Charlie Rose's tribute to Richard Holbrooke, aired 12/14/2010, a day after his passing, was far and away the most thoughtful, balanced appraisal of Holbrooke's long career of public service. Drawing on insights of close colleagues (among them Les Gelb of Council on Foreign Relations and Strobe Talbot, and utilizing archival footage from 20+ years of interviews with Charlie Rose, what emerges is a portrait of a driven, dedicated statesman with not only the vision to find solutions to intractable global problems, but the determination to implement them. His tactics as a "bulldozer" were not sugar-coated, but put in the context of whatever it took to get things done. They also acknowledged Holbrooke's role as mentor to subsequent generations of aspiring public servants. Highly recommended.
